Ebola outbreak in DRC: LegendMEDI tent offers treatment solutions
An Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is currently out of control. Aid and health experts have warned that it can become as serious as the outbreak that devastated West Africa between 2013 and 2016. With more than 1,600 cases and almost 1,100 deaths since July 2018 (mostly women and children), the outbreak in DRC’s North Kivu region is the second largest in history.

The numbers are still escalating and the fatality rate is higher than in previous outbreak, at 67%. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), “the national and regional risk levels are very high and containment of the spread to North Kivu and Ituri provinces is unlikely, unless a break in the fighting makes it safe for health workers.”
LegendMEDI tent offers innovative solutions in treating patients
As part of its commitment to creating innovative shelter solutions, NRS Relief offers its latest breakthrough product for the humanitarian and healthcare community – the LegendMEDI medical tent.
Developed in response to the first Ebola outbreak, which has cost over 11,000 lives, this tent answers to the specific challenges when treating hemorrhagic fever patients. It offers separate, easy-to-disinfect treatment and isolation rooms for both suspected and confirmed patients. The individual cabins for suspected patients prevent cross-contamination between infected and healthy patients. The medical tent is constructed in a way no (infected) material can accumulate on the surface of the tent, in seams or other parts.

The tent’s 30-sqm floor space can accommodate up to four patients and can be attached to one another to make a longer structure.
Designed for easy operation
LegendMEDI is designed to allow freedom of movement and easy operation like opening and closing of the doors with magnetic closures, wearing protective clothing. The special treatment cabins and other accessories are made of PVC coated polyester or polyethylene tarpaulin with non-corrosive accessories, whereby all seams and attachment points which might get in touch with patients, are heat or HF welded.
All tent components can be disinfected with chlorine-based disinfectants or other commonly used detergents. Furthermore, it can be erected on various soil conditions and in different climate conditions, from moderate to tropical.
